Bobby Fischer and the game of chess: a passion that involved the future world’s champion since his early age and persisted up to his recent death. This story is inspired by an anecdote of his childhood that shows the great potentialities of a boy that would have became an emblematic figure for USA and the entire world during the cold war.

The challenge of the film is to tell , in five minutes, the spark from which an extraordinary champion of chess was born. On the contrary of what was expected Bobby Fischer had an unforeseeable destiny : after having won the world’s championship he deserted everything and retired, disappearing in anonymity. During the last years of his life he left a few traces of himself and caused embarrassing situations to the United States, by some of his awkward declarations.
But in the end we can speak of him as a great champion, that dedicated the all life to the obsession of chess. When once they asked him what chess represented to him? He had no doubt on answering “Everything”.
We shoot only in one day, in two locations. Bobby’s framings are fixed close-up or very slow dolly/dollies, on the contrary, the scene in which there is his family it has been shoot with an hand-held camera fast and quick actions, as it happens in every day’s life.
The direction wanted to put on stage the difference visual and sonorous between a solitary genius , while is in his room reflecting on all the possible combinations of pawns, castles and queens, and normal situation from which Bobby will fade away in the passing of the years.
